Open your pod and follow the initialization screen for a new knowledge base. If you already have notes in a desktop instance, leave the server uninitialized and follow the desktop-to-server sync guide instead of creating a separate empty knowledge base first. Use the password chosen for your knowledge base rather than assuming a default account.

No. PikaPods sets up and runs TriliumNext for you, including OS and app updates and HTTPS. You won't touch Docker or a server. Your files and database stay accessible if you ever want to move them elsewhere.

Yes. Trilium desktop clients for Windows, macOS and Linux keep local data and can synchronize with your pod. Set up a new desktop client from the existing server using your pod’s HTTPS address and the knowledge-base credentials. Check the server’s About dialog: matching application versions are safest, and the Sync version must match. A newer client is not automatically compatible. See the hosted-version guidance. No separate third-party sync account is needed for this connection.

The built-in mobile web interface works through your pod and can be added to your home screen, but it does not work offline and has fewer features than desktop. Community clients include TriliumDroid and Pocket Trilium for Android and Trinote for iOS. These are separate projects with their own compatibility requirements; TriliumDroid needs a matching Sync version. Trinote is currently listed free and caches notes for offline editing, while full-text search still needs the server. Check client requirements before connecting it to your pod.

Set up incremental backups to S3 in your pod settings for automatic nightly snapshots, or download your files and database yourself. We keep whole-server backups for server failures, but they aren't a per-pod restore service, so your own backup is what protects your data.

You can use TriliumNext instead of Evernote and Microsoft OneNote. PikaPods runs it for you, and you can move your files and database elsewhere.

Evernote offers notebooks, web clipping and polished apps on every platform. TriliumNext uses a deep note tree with clones, labels and relations for more structured knowledge. On a phone, you mainly use the browser, so it suits desk work better.

Trilium is designed for one person’s knowledge base, not independent team accounts with permission controls. Publishing selected notes is different from multi-user editing. If you need a shared editable team wiki, choose an app designed for that access model.

No. Trilium stores its knowledge base in a database, including the tree, cloned placements and other relationships. It supports Markdown import and export, but those files are not the live storage format and may not preserve every Trilium-specific feature. Use its built-in synchronization rather than syncing an open database file with a general file-sync service.

No. You add prepaid credit and your pods are billed by the hour from that balance, rounded up to full hours. There are no contracts or minimum terms: delete a pod anytime and billing stops. Optional automatic top-ups keep your pods running without manual payments.

You do. And you're in full control. If you ever want to download, migrate, edit or delete your data, just enable file and database access for your pod and it will be right there.
