The upstream first-run screen asks you to create an administrator account, then sign in with its username or email and password. Set a library name and use your pod’s full HTTPS address as its library URL. Start with a matching DRM-free EPUB and audiobook; Storyteller does not supply books or remove DRM. No. PikaPods sets up and runs Storyteller for you, including OS and app updates and HTTPS. You won't touch Docker or a server. Your files and database stay accessible if you ever want to move them elsewhere.

Install Storyteller Reader for iOS or Android, enter your pod’s base HTTPS address, and sign in. Download books while the app is open before using them offline. The mobile guide explains playback and position sync. In this release line, the web reader is experimental and disabled by default upstream; installing the website as a PWA does not add offline reading. Exported EPUBs also work in compatible readers such as Thorium, but that is file playback rather than a guaranteed connection to your pod.

Local transcription uses the server’s CPU and memory, so it can take considerable time. Upstream’s resource guide lists 8 GB RAM for local processing and suggests budgeting about 1 GB per book for sources and working files. The default Whisper tiny model suits many English books; larger models can need more resources. A GPU is not required and should not be assumed available on your pod. Optional cloud transcription providers require your own account and credentials, may charge separately, and receive the audio you send them. See transcription settings.

Set up incremental backups to S3 in your pod settings for automatic nightly snapshots, or download your files and database yourself. We keep whole-server backups for server failures, but they aren't a per-pod restore service, so your own backup is what protects your data.

You can use Storyteller instead of BookFusion and Kindle. PikaPods runs it for you, and you can move your files and database elsewhere.

Amazon links some Kindle ebooks and Audible audiobooks you've bought from it. Storyteller does similar work on DRM-free files from any source: it aligns your own ebook and audiobook, then lets you read along in its apps or other EPUB 3 readers. You need both versions of a book, and processing takes time.

No. Its alignment workflow transcribes an existing audiobook to match its timing to the ebook’s sentences. You supply both formats; it is not a text-to-speech service that creates an audiobook from an ebook alone.

No. You add prepaid credit and your pods are billed by the hour from that balance, rounded up to full hours. There are no contracts or minimum terms: delete a pod anytime and billing stops. Optional automatic top-ups keep your pods running without manual payments.

You do. And you're in full control. If you ever want to download, migrate, edit or delete your data, just enable file and database access for your pod and it will be right there.
