Audiobookshelf Hosting
Managed Audiobookshelf, ready in under a minute.
Audiobookshelf is an open source media server built for audiobooks and podcasts. Keep your own collection in one place, listen in the browser or on your phone, and pick up where you left off on any device. It suits people with their own audiobook files, households that share a library, and podcast listeners who want to keep episodes on their own server.
Each person gets their own account and listening progress. Audiobookshelf can look up metadata and cover art from several providers, edit chapters, and download new podcast episodes automatically. It also has basic ebook support for epub, pdf, cbr and cbz files. The phone apps are in beta, so check their current state in your app store. You supply the audiobooks, and DRM-protected purchases won't play.
It is an alternative to Audible and Plex.
What you can do with Audiobookshelf
Bring your audiobooks and podcasts together in one library, then listen from your browser or phone and keep your place across devices.
Audiobooks and podcasts
Stream both from one server. Search for podcasts, download episodes automatically, and open RSS feeds for your audiobooks and episodes.
Synced listening progress
Progress is saved per user and syncs across devices, so you can switch from browser to phone without losing your place.
Metadata and chapters
Look up metadata and cover art from several providers, edit chapters, embed metadata in your audio files and merge multiple files into one m4b.
Shared household library
Create an account for each listener, then limit access by library or tag. Admin, user and guest account types come with different permissions.
What users say about Audiobookshelf
Summarized from public community discussions about Audiobookshelf, not about PikaPods.
Moving from Plex
People who moved their audiobooks from Plex mention better series grouping and narrator browsing. Automatic metadata gets mixed reports: some praise it, while one user fixes it by hand because sources seemed inconsistent (Plex switcher, metadata and series comparison, running both).
Choosing a phone app
Some users like the server more than the official phone apps, and pair it with third-party players such as AudioBooth or Plappa instead (Android client opinion, AudioBooth experience, Plappa experience).
