Readeck Hosting

1. On a new installation, complete Readeck's welcome form with your own username and password. This creates the initial administrator account.
2. Optionally add an email address for recovery and internal notifications, then select Finish installation. Keep your password safe and make sure email delivery works before relying on recovery messages.
3. Save an article URL and check its extracted text and images. Add labels or a highlight, then connect the browser extension if you want to save pages while browsing.

No. PikaPods sets up and runs Readeck for you, including OS and app updates and HTTPS. You won't touch Docker or a server. Your files and database stay accessible if you ever want to move them elsewhere.

Open your pod in a browser on a computer, phone or tablet. The official application directory lists Android and iPhone/iPad clients that connect to your Readeck server and support offline article reading. Use your pod URL and authorize the client with your Readeck account. The Firefox and Chrome extensions save pages from your browser.

For an e-reader, download EPUB files or use an OPDS-compatible app such as KOReader. Add your pod's /opds catalog, your username and an API token with read-only bookmark permission, following the catalog guide. Offline reading in a native client or downloaded EPUB is different from merely opening the hosted website.

You do not need an upstream Readeck hosting account to use your pod. The linked official Android and iOS apps are currently free; app-store accounts and publisher subscriptions for restricted articles are separate from your Readeck server.

Extraction can fail on paywalls, JavaScript-heavy pages or sites that block server requests. The browser extension can send content that you can already access in your browser, but it does not grant access to paid content. Readeck does not store your website login credentials. Video bookmarks can depend on the original video service rather than storing an offline video copy; see the extraction FAQ.

Set up incremental backups to S3 in your pod settings for automatic nightly snapshots, or download your files and database yourself. We keep whole-server backups for server failures, but they aren't a per-pod restore service, so your own backup is what protects your data.

You can use Readeck instead of Instapaper and Readwise Reader. PikaPods runs it for you, and you can move your files and database elsewhere.

Both save articles into a clean reading view, with highlights and search. Instapaper is a hosted service with polished phone apps. Readeck keeps article text and images on your pod, and can send collections to an e-reader as EPUB or through OPDS. Check its client options if you read mostly on a phone.

No. You add prepaid credit and your pods are billed by the hour from that balance, rounded up to full hours. There are no contracts or minimum terms: delete a pod anytime and billing stops. Optional automatic top-ups keep your pods running without manual payments.

You do. And you're in full control. If you ever want to download, migrate, edit or delete your data, just enable file and database access for your pod and it will be right there.
