Code Server Hosting

Open your pod URL. PikaPods stores the generated editor password in home/.config/code-server/config.yaml, which you can read using the pod’s SFTP access. Use that password to sign in, then open or create your project folder. The configuration FAQ explains the password configuration.

No. PikaPods sets up and runs Code Server for you, including OS and app updates and HTTPS. You won't touch Docker or a server. Your files and database stay accessible if you ever want to move them elsewhere.

Yes. Open the same pod URL in a supported browser to return to your server workspace. Some keyboard shortcuts are intercepted by browsers; installing the editor as a web app can help. iPad users should review the iPad guide for device-specific limitations.

You do not need a Microsoft account for the editor. Code Server uses Open VSX rather than Microsoft’s extension marketplace, and some proprietary extensions, including Microsoft’s Remote Development extensions, are unavailable. Optional services and extensions can require their own accounts or fees; see the extension FAQ.

Set up incremental backups to S3 in your pod settings for automatic nightly snapshots, or download your files and database yourself. We keep whole-server backups for server failures, but they aren't a per-pod restore service, so your own backup is what protects your data.

You can use Code Server instead of GitHub Codespaces. PikaPods runs it for you, and you can move your files and database elsewhere.

GitHub Codespaces creates managed development environments from your repositories, with GitHub handling the infrastructure. Code Server gives you one long-running workspace on your pod, with your files kept between sessions. It uses Open VSX extensions rather than Microsoft's marketplace, so check that yours are available.

No. You add prepaid credit and your pods are billed by the hour from that balance, rounded up to full hours. There are no contracts or minimum terms: delete a pod anytime and billing stops. Optional automatic top-ups keep your pods running without manual payments.

You do. And you're in full control. If you ever want to download, migrate, edit or delete your data, just enable file and database access for your pod and it will be right there.
